Yesterday afternoon a shockingly large pickup truck came roaring into our lot. Out stepped two equally large men. One was Brad Willet. He's on the left above. The other was Scott Willett. He's on the right.
Brad, Scott, Intern Emily, and I set straight to work moving the huge stack of drywall that had been delivered that morning. I learned something yesterday. There is a right way to move heavy items that uses its natural gravity to your advantage. It's been pointed out to me before, especially when moving the large white flats in the Playspace. But, if you slide a piece of drywall forward until it is approximately half-way off the stack, place your left hand - palm flat on the edge, push downward and reach up with your right hand and grab the top of the sheet, two little ladies like Emily and myself can carry an awful lot of sheetrock. Because we're tough like that. Brad is tougher. He carried some of them all by himself.
When we were done, 15 sheets of drywall sat in the Cafe, 4 sat in the entryway of the Flowspace, and 3 more sat in the horseshoe of the Flowspace. The pace of work was set.
As the night wore on, piece by piece of drywall was cut and hung by Brad & Scott. The result is incredible. The flowspace has drywall again. Now, all that is left to drywall is the Cafe. The Flowspace will need mudding, taping. Both rooms will need ceiling tiles. We had some good news earlier this week when the carpet installer informed me it would not be necessary to strip the floors at all. So those of you who were keen on that will have to wait to hone your glue stripping skills:)
However , we won't be able to paint until Wednesday or Thursday. So anyone who is available during the week or next weekend has another opportunity to help out.
The first weekday volunteer is Tim Cigelski. He's volunteered to be here on Wednesday at 10:00am. Thanks, Tim! But mostly we want to extend our deepest, most heartfelt thanks to Brad & Scott. The work they did was incredible and we are so thankful.
If you are able to help please feel free to just come on down when you are available, or you can send me an email to jenn@bucketworks.org.
To everyone who has already volunteered their time, we thank you and look forward to tomorrow!
