In my mind, one of the amazing things about Bucketworks is our amazing ability to flex, be agile, react quickly and still maintain our sense of ourselves, our purpose, and our goals. In the last couple of weeks we have, while operating at approximately 50% of our capacity continued to host Vertical Essence Dance Company's Dance Camp, the Lake Geneva Theatre Company's Private Lives rehearsals, Spiral Theatre's Wait Until Dark the first theatre show since the flooding opened on the July 11th. Read what director Doug Griffin had to say in an interview with Express Milwaukee's Russ Bickerstaff, urban art Born 2 Skill gallery show, a Final Cut Pro demo, Brew City church's Sunday worship, a group of enthusiastic teachers from the Sally Ride Academy in Brookfield, a LAN party, Grupo Maculele's Batizado ceremony, Flash vs Flirty Mardi Gras Style teen social (which boasted nearly 200 attendees!), Web414 gathered to discuss BarcampMilwaukee happening October 3 and 4, Spreenkler hosted Frank Keppler of Brew City Brands, the Great Lakes Urban Exchange (GLUE) presented a talk on SEWRPC by guest speakers Jim Rowen and Gretchen Schuldt, and many of our professional members are back in the Entrepreneur's Greenhouse co-working space. Our calendar just keeps filling up. While we had hoped to be re-opening in the next couple of weeks, it appears that it is more likely we will be officially re-opening in August.
With only the Playspace, Greenhouse, and Fab Lab available to our groups their flexibility, cooperation, and volunteerism has been invaluable to making this work. Want to volunteer? Email Jenn Turner. Want to donate? Visit the site. Got stuff you want to donate? Check out our Wish List.
But outside these walls there's something really cool going on:

What is the Milwaukee Spotlight Student Film Festival?
Milwaukee Spotlight is the first and only organization dedicated solely to helping youth in Wisconsin, and beyond, express their visions and their voices through film and to showcase their accomplishments in an annual festival. Last year, the festival featured 40 films from 12 Wisconsin schools and also attracted submissions from students in California, Washington, Texas, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, and New York—all eager to share in our mission. This year, with a dedicated team of students, teachers, community advocates, and festival partners, we are preparing an exciting fall festival. The Grand Prize winning film will automatically be screened at the 2008 Milwaukee International Film Festival, and other prizes will be awarded to the winners of the other categories. Deadline for submission is July 18th!!
