Concepts at Bucketworks

Working in an collaborative environment that simultaneously supports business, technology, creativity, and performance give rise to new concepts. Below we list of some of the ideas we use in our work--terms you may hear or things you may experience if you become a member and spend some time in this unique environment.

"Its not a problem till its a problem"

Tronathan's picture

Ideas are everywhere and we have a surplus at Bucketworks. We are constantly improving our physical wiki and building into our collective future. Entrepreneurs and other people who work on creative projects are constantly faced by the need to decide what is important and where they should spend their time.

Ambient Food

Tronathan's picture

People are constantly bringing food of all kinds for their events at Bucketworks.  Leftovers are stored in the kitchen, and we choose to eat them before bringing food in from the outside.  Working in this environment means having constant access to a stream of different kinds of foods which are just "in the environment" or coming out of the background, much like the backgrou

Blueprints

James Carlson's picture

Before we had wiki or even electronic storage, we had Blueprints.

Blueprints were identical 24" x 24" mylar sheets with die-cut alignment holes in the center of each side (not the corners.)

Books as Recipies

Tronathan's picture

The idea that every book we read can be be looked at as a recipie to make something in real life; either physical, mental (such as a web site), or experiential (such as a school program), or behavioural/emotional (such as new ways of interacting with people).

Bucket Brigade (Concept)

Tronathan's picture

Before fire trucks, people put water to fires by lining up between the village well and the fire and dipping and passing buckets of water along the line until the water reached the fire.

Part of what Bucketworks is about is helping its members bring about a vision in the world that combines their personal passion with their personal sustainability.

In other words, we want people to figure out how they can make the world better and make their personal lives better, at the same time.

Dummy Up

Tronathan's picture

During a project, Dummying Up means to get a second opinion on something, regardless of how simple it may be.  It means to talk your plan through with someone, or to question someone on how they're doing something.  It could be compared to aspects of the "Extreme Programming (XP)" methodology.

Maieutic Method

Tronathan's picture

The Maieutic Method is "a method of teaching by question and answer; used by Socrates to elicit truths from his students".  We employ maieutic principals during facilitation of value gatherings.  As executive director James Carlson  said recently when asked if we had all the content ready for an upcoming value gathering, "The cont
